  • There is no reason why power channel shouldn't be exported as is done for
    voltage, current, temperature and humidity.

Power channel is available on iio ina226 driver.

Sysfs IIO documentation for power attribute added by commit 7c6d5c7ee883
("iio: Documentation: Add missing documentation for power attribute")
is declaring that value is in mili-Watts but hwmon interface is expecting
value in micro-Watts that's why there is a need for mili-Watts to
    micro-Watts conversion.

    Tested on Xilinx ZCU102 board.

  • Replace S_ with octal values.

The conversion was done automatically with coccinelle. The semantic patches
and the scripts used to generate this commit log are available at
    https://github.com/groeck/coccinelle-patches/hwmon/.

This patch does not introduce functional changes. It was verified by
compiling the old and new files and comparing text and data sizes.

  • The devm_kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, devm_kcalloc().
    This patch replaces cases of:

    devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

    with:
    devm_kcalloc(handle, a * b, gfp)

as well as handling cases of:

    devm_kzalloc(handle, a * b * c, gfp)

    with:

    devm_kzalloc(handle, array3_size(a, b, c), gfp)

as it's slightly less ugly than:

    devm_kcalloc(handle, array_size(a, b), c, gfp)

This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:

    devm_kzalloc(handle, 4 * 1024, gfp)

though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.

Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
    dropped, since they're redundant.

Some manual whitespace fixes were needed in this patch, as Coccinelle
really liked to write "=devm_kcalloc..." instead of "= devm_kcalloc...".

The Coccinelle script used for this was:

// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

  • iio_channel_get_all returns -ENODEV when it cannot find either phandles and
properties in the Device Tree or channels whose consumer_dev_name matches
iio_hwmon in iio_map_list. The iio_map_list is filled in by iio drivers
which might be probed after iio_hwmon.

It is better to defer the probe of iio_hwmon if such error is returned by
iio_channel_get_all in order to let a chance to iio drivers to expose
    channels in iio_map_list.

  • Currently the driver calls hwmon_device_register_with_groups which
does not accept hypen in node name and returns EINVAL. Use of hypen
in device tree node name results in probe failure., however use of
hypen in device tree node name is perfectly acceptable.

Change this by allocating a duplicate managed string, replacing
hypen with underscore and then calling hwmon_device_register_with_groups.
This allows the use of hypen in device tree node name while maintaining
backwards compatibility and preventing any possible regressions with
    user space.

  • This driver uses channel maps, defined either through device tree
or platform data, to create a hwmon driver which acts as a client
for the underlying IIO device channels. Thus a general purpose
IIO adc driver can be used to provide hardware monitoring using a subset
    of its channels.

The only non move changes here concern the description and changes to the

I'm proposing moving this into hwmon on the basis of placing drivers
based on what they provide rather than what their underlying hardware
    is.
