Continuing the work started in 411f0f3edc141a582190d3605cadd1d993abb6df ...
This enables code with a dma path, that compiles away, to build without
requiring additional code factoring. It also prevents code that calls
dma_alloc_coherent and dma_free_coherent from linking whereas previously
the code would hit a BUG() at run time. Finally, it allows archs that set
!HAS_DMA to delete their asm/dma-mapping.h file.Cc: Cornelia Huck

This finally renames the thread_info field in task structure to stack, so that
the assumptions about this field are gone and archs have more freedom about
placing the thread_info structure.Nonbroken archs which have a proper thread pointer can do the access to both
current thread and task structure via a single pointer.It'll allow for a few more cleanups of the fork code, from which e.g. ia64
could benefit.Signed-off-by: Roman Zippel

This patch simply defines CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for all arches. We later do special
things with CONFIG_ZONE_DMA after the VM and an arch are prepared to work
without ZONE_DMA.CONFIG_ZONE_DMA can be defined in two ways depending on how an architecture
handles ISA DMA.First if CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA is set by the arch then we know that the arch
needs ZONE_DMA because ISA DMA devices are supported. We can catch this in
mm/Kconfig and do not need to modify arch code.Second, arches may use ZONE_DMA in an unknown way. We set CONFIG_ZONE_DMA for
all arches that do not set CONFIG_GENERIC_ISA_DMA in order to insure backwards
compatibility. The arches may later undefine ZONE_DMA if their arch code has
been verified to not depend on ZONE_DMA.Signed-off-by: Christoph Lameter

perl -pi -e "s/ ?= ?\([^\)]*\) *(k[cmz]alloc) *\(/ = \1\(/" $f

to non-pointers.And then drop a few hunks which conflicted with outstanding work.

This facility provides three entry points:
ilog2() Log base 2 of unsigned long
ilog2_u32() Log base 2 of u32
ilog2_u64() Log base 2 of u64These facilities can either be used inside functions on dynamic data:
int do_something(long q)
{
...;
y = ilog2(x)
...;
}Or can be used to statically initialise global variables with constant values:
unsigned n = ilog2(27);
When performing static initialisation, the compiler will report "error:
initializer element is not constant" if asked to take a log of zero or of
something not reducible to a constant. They treat negative numbers as
unsigned.When not dealing with a constant, they fall back to using fls() which permits
them to use arch-specific log calculation instructions - such as BSR on
x86/x86_64 or SCAN on FRV - if available.[akpm@osdl.org: MMC fix]

This adds the new kernel_execve function on all architectures that were using
_syscall3() to implement execve.The implementation uses code from the _syscall3 macros provided in the
unistd.h header file. I don't have cross-compilers for any of these
architectures, so the patch is untested with the exception of i386.Most architectures can probably implement this in a nicer way in assembly or
by combining it with the sys_execve implementation itself, but this should do
it for now.[bunk@stusta.de: m68knommu build fix]

This patch adds a nsproxy structure to the task struct. Later patches will
move the fs namespace pointer into this structure, and introduce a new utsname
namespace into the nsproxy.The vserver and openvz functionality, then, would be implemented in large part
by virtualizing/isolating more and more resources into namespaces, each
contained in the nsproxy.[akpm@osdl.org: build fix]

Pass ticks to do_timer() and update_times(), and adjust x86_64 and s390
timer interrupt handler with this change.Currently update_times() calculates ticks by "jiffies - wall_jiffies", but
callers of do_timer() should know how many ticks to update. Passing ticks
get rid of this redundant calculation. Also there are another redundancy
pointed out by Martin Schwidefsky.This cleanup make a barrier added by
5aee405c662ca644980c184774277fc6d0769a84 needless. So this patch removes
it.As a bonus, this cleanup make wall_jiffies can be removed easily, since now
wall_jiffies is always synced with jiffies. (This patch does not really
remove wall_jiffies. It would be another cleanup patch)Signed-off-by: Atsushi Nemoto
