set_irq_flags is ARM specific with custom flags which have genirq
equivalents. Convert drivers to use the genirq interfaces directly, so we
can kill off set_irq_flags. The translation of flags is as follows:IRQF_VALID -> !IRQ_NOREQUEST
IRQF_PROBE -> !IRQ_NOPROBE
IRQF_NOAUTOEN -> IRQ_NOAUTOENFor IRQs managed by an irqdomain, the irqdomain core code handles clearing
and setting IRQ_NOREQUEST already, so there is no need to do this in
.map() functions and we can simply remove the set_irq_flags calls. Some
users also modify IRQ_NOPROBE and this has been maintained although it
is not clear that is really needed. There appears to be a great deal of

Migrate ks8695 driver to the new 'set-state' interface provided by
clockevents core, the earlier 'set-mode' interface is marked obsolete
now.This also enables us to implement callbacks for new states of clockevent
devices, for example: ONESHOT_STOPPED.There is nothing to be done for oneshot or shutdown states and so are

The SI unit of frequency is Hertz, named after Heinrich Hertz, and is
given the symbol "Hz" to denote this. "hz" is not the unit of frequency,
and is in fact meaningless.Fix arch/arm to correctly use "Hz", thereby acknowledging Heinrich Hertz'

Clearing obj-y, obj-m, obj-n, obj- in each Makefile is
a useless habit.They are non-exported variables; therefore they are always empty
whenever descending into each subdirectory.

The platforms selecting NEED_MACH_MEMORY_H defined the start address of
their physical memory in the respective . With
ARM_PATCH_PHYS_VIRT=y (which is quite common today) this is useless
though because the definition isn't used but determined dynamically.So remove the definitions from all and provide the
Kconfig symbol PHYS_OFFSET with the respective defaults in case
ARM_PATCH_PHYS_VIRT isn't enabled.This allows to drop the dependency of PHYS_OFFSET on !NEED_MACH_MEMORY_H
which prevents compiling an integrator nommu-kernel.
(CONFIG_PAGE_OFFSET which has "default PHYS_OFFSET if !MMU" expanded to
"0x" because CONFIG_PHYS_OFFSET doesn't exist as INTEGRATOR selects

The 'og' machine tries to always initialized the PCI code, but that
may be disabled in Kconfig, leading to a build error.This patch changes the code to use the same Kconfig symbol to decide
about calling the ks8695_init_pci function at build time that we

This cleanup series gets rid of for platforms not using
ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM. (For multi-platform code it's already unused since
387798b (ARM: initial multiplatform support).)To make this work some code out of arch/arm needed to be adapted. The
respective changes got acks by their maintainers to be taken via armsoc
(with Andrew Morton substituting for Alessandro Zummo as rtc maintainer).Compared to the previous pull request there was another patch added that

While isn't used for multi-platform builds since long it
still is for "normal" builds. As the previous patches fix all sites to
not make use of this per-platform file, it can go now for good also for
platforms that are not (yet) converted to multi-platform.While at it there are no users of CLOCK_TICK_RATE any more, so also drop

Now that the only field in struct sys_timer is .init, delete the struct,
and replace the machine descriptor .timer field with the initialization
function itself.This will enable moving timer drivers into drivers/clocksource without
having to place a public prototype of each struct sys_timer object into
include/linux; the intent is to create a single of_clocksource_init()
function that determines which timer driver to initialize by scanning
the device dtree, much like the proposed irqchip_init() at:

__arch_virt_to_dma expects a virtual address pointer, but
the ks8695 implementation of this macro treats it as an
integer. Adding a type cast avoids hundreds of identical

A number of boards produced by SnapGear are based on the Micrel KS8695 SoC.

Old platforms using ancient gettimeoffset() and other arcane
APIs are standing in the way of cleaning up the ARM kernel.
The gettimeoffset() was also broken: it would try to read out
the timer counter value, while this would not work (the
counter statically returns the initially programmed value)
so the implementation would anyway fall back to a homebrew
version of jiffie calculation.This is an attempt at blind-coding a generic time and clocksource
driver for the platform by way of a datasheet and looking at the

Most PCI implementations perform simple root bus scanning. Rather than
having each group of platforms provide a duplicated bus scan function,
provide the PCI configuration ops structure via the hw_pci structure,

Most PCI implementations use the standard PCI swizzle function, which
handles the well defined behaviour of PCI-to-PCI bridges which can be
found on cards (eg, four port ethernet cards.)Rather than having almost every platform specify the standard swizzle
function, make this the default when no swizzle function is supplied.
Therefore, a swizzle function only needs to be provided when there is
something exceptional which needs to be handled.This gets rid of the swizzle initializer from 47 files, and leaves us
with just two platforms specifying a swizzle function: ARM Integrator

Pull "Disintegrate and delete asm/system.h" from David Howells:
"Here are a bunch of patches to disintegrate asm/system.h into a set of
separate bits to relieve the problem of circular inclusion
dependencies.I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can
and made sure that they don't break.The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular
dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to
optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2().This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in
asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h.The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of
low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg.
memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that
aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()).These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces:
(1) asm/barrier.h
Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha.
(2) asm/switch_to.h
Move switch_to() and related stuff here.
(3) asm/exec.h
Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits
could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h.(4) asm/cmpxchg.h
Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and
frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg().(5) asm/bug.h
Move die() and related bits.
(6) asm/auxvec.h
Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here.
Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis."
