  • In order to make is_kdump_kernel() accessible from modules, need to
    make elfcorehdr_addr exported.
This was rejected in the past [1] because reset_devices was prefered in
that context (reseting the device in kdump kernel), but now there are
some network drivers that need to reduce memory usage when loaded from
a kdump kernel. And in that context, is_kdump_kernel() suits better.

  • The changed files were only including linux/module.h for the
EXPORT_SYMBOL infrastructure, and nothing else. Revector them
onto the isolated export header for faster compile times.

Nothing to see here but a whole lot of instances of:

    -#include
    +#include

This commit is only changing the kernel dir; next targets
will probably be mm, fs, the arch dirs, etc.

  • Currently only the address of the pre-allocated ELF header is passed with
the elfcorehdr= kernel parameter. In order to reserve memory for the header
in the 2nd kernel also the size is required. Current kdump architecture
backends use different methods to do that, e.g. x86 uses the memmap= kernel
parameter. On s390 there is no easy way to transfer this information.
Therefore the elfcorehdr kernel parameter is extended to also pass the size.
This now can also be used as standard mechanism by all future kdump
    architecture backends.

The syntax of the kernel parameter is extended as follows:

    elfcorehdr=[size[KMG]@]offset[KMG]

This change is backward compatible because elfcorehdr=size is still allowed.

  • …p_elfcorehdr and saved_max_pfn

The Xen PV drivers in a crashed HVM guest can not connect to the dom0
backend drivers because both frontend and backend drivers are still in
connected state. To run the connection reset function only in case of a
crashdump, the is_kdump_kernel() function needs to be available for the PV
    driver modules.

    Consolidate elfcorehdr_addr, setup_elfcorehdr and saved_max_pfn into
    kernel/crash_dump.c Also export elfcorehdr_addr to make is_kdump_kernel()
    usable for modules.

Leave 'elfcorehdr' as early_param(). This changes powerpc from __setup()
to early_param(). It adds an address range check from x86 also on ia64
    and powerpc.

  • - Moving the crash_dump.c file to arch dependent part as kmap_atomic_pfn is
specific to i386 and highmem may not exist in other archs.

    - Use ioremap for x86_64 to map the previous kernel memory.

    - In copy_oldmem_page(), we now directly copy to the user/kernel buffer and
avoid the unneccesary copy to a kmalloc'd page.

  • From: "Vivek Goyal"

o Support for /proc/vmcore interface. This interface exports elf core image
either in ELF32 or ELF64 format, depending on the format in which elf headers
have been stored by crashed kernel.
o Added support for CONFIG_VMCORE config option.
o Removed the dependency on /proc/kcore.

    From: "Eric W. Biederman"

This patch has been refactored to more closely match the prevailing style in
the affected files. And to clearly indicate the dependency between
    /proc/kcore and proc/vmcore.c
